A successful UGLAW preparation strategy should combine knowledge, practice and revision.
Step 1: Understand the Examination
Before beginning preparation, understand:
Number of questions
Distribution of subjects
Negative marking
Time available
Relative importance of each section
In the 2026 pattern, Law and General Knowledge/Current Affairs together accounted for 80 of the 100 questions. Therefore, these areas deserve substantial preparation time.
Step 2: Build a Strong General Awareness Base
Students should maintain a regular current-affairs routine.
Instead of attempting to memorise hundreds of isolated facts, organise current affairs into categories:
National → International → Legal → Polity → Economy → Science → Awards → Sports → Important Persons
This makes revision easier.
Step 3: Study Basic Legal Concepts
UGLAW aspirants should develop familiarity with the Constitution, important legal terminology, basic principles of law and important legal developments.
The objective is not to become an LL.B. student before entering law school.
The objective is to develop the legal awareness required for the entrance examination.
Step 4: Practise MCQs Regularly
MCQ practice is essential.
Students should practise:
Topic-wise questions
Mixed questions
Previous-year questions
Current-affairs questions
Full-length mock tests
After every test, students should analyse their incorrect answers.
Simply counting the score is not enough.
A student should ask:
Why did I get this question wrong?
Was it:
Lack of knowledge?
Confusion between two options?
Careless reading?
Poor time management?
Guessing?
Lack of revision?
This analysis is often more valuable than simply taking another test.
