UGLAW Syllabus

UGLAW does not require a student to possess an advanced knowledge of university-level law. The examination is designed for candidates entering the five-year integrated law programme.

The preparation can broadly be divided into four areas.

1. Law

The Law section carries the highest subject-specific weight along with General Knowledge and Current Affairs.

Important areas for preparation may include:

  • Basic principles of legal system

  • Law-related general awareness

  • Basic legal terminology

  • Important legal concepts

  • Important landmark judgments

  • Basic principles of contract law

  • Legal maxims

  • Current legal developments

Students should focus on understanding basic legal concepts rather than attempting to study the entire LL.B. syllabus.

2. General Knowledge and Current Affairs

This is one of the most important components of UGLAW because it carries 40 marks in the 2026 examination scheme.

Preparation should cover:

The Reasoning section carries 10 marks.

Students should practise:

  • Analogy

  • Classification

  • Series

  • Coding-decoding

  • Blood relations

  • Direction tests

  • Logical relationships

  • Statement-based reasoning

  • Simple arrangements

  • Number and letter patterns

  • Basic analytical reasoning

The objective should be to solve these questions quickly and accurately.

4. English

The English section carries 10 marks.

Important areas include:

  • Antonyms

  • One-word substitutions

  • Idioms and phrases

  • Grammar

  • Sentence correction

  • Fill in the blanks

  • Articles

  • Prepositions

  • Correct usage of words

A student does not necessarily need an advanced vocabulary. Consistent reading and daily vocabulary practice can substantially improve performance.
