The UGLAW examination is an objective-type entrance test.
According to the 2026 Panjab University prospectus, the examination consisted of 100 multiple-choice questions carrying 100 marks, with a total examination duration of 90 minutes.
The distribution was:
Law – 40 questions / 40 marks
General Knowledge and Current Affairs – 40 questions / 40 marks
Reasoning – 10 questions / 10 marks
English – 10 questions / 10 marks
There was negative marking of one-fourth mark for every incorrect answer.
Thus, the examination requires not only knowledge but also accuracy and effective time management.
The 2026 prospectus also stated that the question paper would be available in English, Hindi and Punjabi, except for the English-language component. The medium of instruction and semester examinations in the law programme is English.
