National Investigation Agency

  • It is a central counter-terrorism agency functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
  • It is empowered to deal with terror related crimes across states without special permission from the states.
  • Constituted under the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act, 2008 after Mumbai Terror attack.
  • Officers of the NIA are drawn from the Indian Police Service and Indian Revenue Service.

Super Series Tournaments of Badminton

  • The Super Series is a series of 12 badminton tournaments held each year.
  • The Super Series tournaments were introduced in 2007. It’s official name is the BWF World Super Series.
  • Since 2011, the Super Series includes two levels of tournament, Super Series Premier and Super Series.

 

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals

  • It is an American immigration policy established by the Obama administration through an executive action in 2012.
  • It allows some individuals who entered the country illegally as minors to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and eligibility for a work permit.
  • Trump Administration had tried ending this Obama-era programme in 2017. Recently, a federal court has ordered the full reinstatement of this programme – a ruling that would help a large number of Indian immigrants.

 

Alexy Navalny

  • Alexei Navalny is Russia’s opposition leader and anti-corruption campaigner who was evacuated to Germany after falling ill.
  • Germany claims that the opposition leader has been poisoned using the Soviet-era nerve agent Novichok.
  • Novichok: It means "newcomer" in Russian and applies to a group of advanced nerve agents developed by the Soviet Union in the 1970s and 1980s, under a programme codenamed Foliant.

 

Jaffna Varsity Memorial

  • It is a Tamil war memorial in Jaffna University, Sri Lankarecently destroyed by the authorities in Sri Lanka.
  • The monument was established in 2019 in the University of Jaffna in memory of the civilian Tamils killed in Mullivaikkal in one of the bloody episodes of the island nation’s last leg of the three-decade old conflict in 2009.

  • Uighurs are a Muslim minority community concentrated in the country’s northwestern Xinjiang province.
  • They claim closer ethnic ties to Turkey and other central Asian countries than to China and are predominantly Turkic-speaking.

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)

  • It is established by the Government of India in September 1942 as an autonomous body that has emerged as the largest research and development organization in India.

  • The research and development activities of CSIR include aerospace engineering, structural engineering, ocean sciences, life sciences, metallurgy, chemicals, mining, food, petroleum, leather, and environmental science.

  • Kevadia is a census town in Narmada district in the Indian state of Gujarat.
  • This town is famous tourist Location, as Statue of Unity is located here.

  • Pawan Hans Limited is a helicopter service company.
  • It was incorporated on 15 October 1985 as the Helicopter Corporation of India (HCI).
  • It is a Mini Ratna-I category PSU.
  • It was incorporated with the objective of providing helicopter support services to the oil sector for its off-shore exploration operations, services in remote areas and charter services for the promotion of tourism.
  • It is a government-owned enterprise with 51% stake and the remaining 49% is with ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation)
  • Pawan Hans jointly owns Jal Hans, India’s first amphibious aircraft service with the Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration.

 

White paper of Government

  • The term originated when government papers were coded by color to indicate distribution, with white designated for public access.
  • Generally, white papers are a summary of known information about a topic, perhaps the results of a survey or study.
  • A white paper can be about any subject, but it always makes suggestions to improve the way things work.
  • They are usually published by the government for follow-up action or at least a conclusion.
